Prairie Pennies Program

The Prairie Pennies Program at Prairie Circle Unitarian Universalist Congregation (PCUUC) is a simple way to earn money for the congregation through everyday retail purchases. Prairie Pennies is PCUUC’s name for scrip, which is a money substitute, such as a gift card. Every dollar you spend for scrip generates income for PCUUC based on the percentage offered by the company issuing the scrip.

Participating in the program is easy. We keep some cards always in our inventory, including $100 and $25 Jewel and Dominick’s cards. Buy them from our Prairie Pennies Coordinator at any time with a check or cash. You can also order scrip from dozens of leading retailers. Orders are due on the third Sunday of each month. The scrip will be distributed the following Sunday.

To purchase scrip by order, you need to do two things: place your order and pay for it. You have options for both.

Step 1: Placing Your Order

Online Orders:

  1. Go to http://www.shopwithscrip.com/.
  2. Follow the link on the right side of the screen to register as a user. The PCUUC enrollment code, which you will need to register, is F11973A513573.
  3. Follow the directions on the screen to enroll. You may also download a helpful user’s guide by clicking a link on the left side of the screen.
  4. After you have enrolled, you may place your order online at any time before the order due date.

Paper Order Forms:

  1. Review the list of companies on the PCUUC Prairie Pennies Scrip Order Sheet and the larger list of companies listed at http://www.glscrip.com/ under the blue tab labeled “Retailer List.” A print-out of the entire Retailer List is also on the table in the barn during each service next to the Scrip Order Sheets.
  2. Fill out the order form and give it to our Scrip Coordinator, to the Treasurer, or to any Board Member. You may also put your order form in the collection basket during a service or in the mail to the congregation’s post office box. The address is on the form.

Step 2: Paying For Your Order

You can pay for your order with a direct debit payment or by check.

Direct Debit Payment:

  1. Get a direct debit authorization form from our Treasurer: Treasurer@PrairieCircleUUC.org.
  2. Fill out the form and return it to the Treasurer with a cancelled check. PCUUC keeps your banking information strictly confidential.
  3. In the future, your purchases will be charged directly to your bank account on the Monday after the order due date without the need of writing a check.

Payment By Check:

  1. Write a check payable to Prairie Circle Unitarian Universalist Congregation (PCUUC) in the amount of the total purchase price for your order.
  2. Give the check to our Treasurer or to any other Board Member. We must have your check in hand by the order due date. If you are submitting a paper order form, please enclose your check with your order form.

Important points to remember:

  • You may generally use scrip like cash for purchases from the issuing retailer. (Don’t lose the scrip – remember, it’s like cash!) Check the retailer’s listing at http://www.glscrip.com/ or http://www.shopwithscrip.com/ for any special conditions that might apply.
  • Retailers occasionally have specials, and participating retailers sometimes change. Check http://www.glscrip.com/ or http://www.shopwithscrip.com/ for the latest retailer information.
  • Get in the habit of purchasing scrip each month. Every dollar you spend generates revenue for PCUUC.
  • Feel free to alert family and friends that they can help our congregation. Anyone can enroll at http://www.shopwithscrip.com/ to purchase scrip from us. You can also take extra order forms and give them to friends or family.
  • PCUUC does not endorse any retailers. Rather, the idea of the program is, “If you’re going to buy it anyway, buy it with scrip provided by PCUUC” to generate some funds for the congregation.
  • There are no returns or refunds. All purchases are final.
