About the event

The word “God” can be a hot-button for many Unitarian Universalists.  But late maverick retired Episcopal bishop John Shelby Spong, whose best known book is “Why Christianity Must Change or Die,” gives us some new ways of looking at the concept.  He says, “I can tell no one who God is or what God is. Neither can anyone else – from the Pope to Pat Robertson to the Dalai Lama. That is simply an aspect of human pretending.”  We will explore the ideas of this courageous and far-sighted man as expressed by him, and by others, in speech and in song.

February Sky is a folk duo consisting of Phil Cooper (he/him) and Susan Urban (she/her). They specialize in providing music-based services to various UU churches and fellowships while traveling with their music. Susan began presenting these services at 2nd Unitarian Church in Chicago during the 1980s and expanded to other UU churches in 1998. Initially, Phil joined Susan as a backup musician for these services. However, in 2007, they officially formed a duo and began working together to create and present services. In 2013, Phil and Susan relocated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where they became full-time musicians and UU service presenters. They have released five CDs featuring original and traditional music. For more information, visit their website at www.februarysky.com.

Services held in person in the Colby Barn are also available on Zoom.  To join us on Zoom, please go to the WORSHIP SERVICES tab on our website  and click on the blue Zoom link.
