About the event
The path of immigrants in America has not been all easy money and streets paved with gold. Besides leaving behind family and beloved homelands, immigrants have often been subjected to discrimination, overwork, low wages and substandard living conditions. We will look at the treatment of various immigrant groups when they first arrived in the U.S., and consider how we, as Unitarian Universalists, can help to welcome our new neighbors from other lands.
February Sky is a folk duo consisting of Phil Cooper (he/him) and Susan Urban (she/her). They specialize in providing music-based services to various UU churches and fellowships while traveling with their music. Susan began presenting these services at 2nd Unitarian Church in Chicago during the 1980s and expanded to other UU churches in 1998. Initially, Phil joined Susan as a backup musician for these services. However, in 2007, they officially formed a duo and began working together to create and present services. In 2013, Phil and Susan relocated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where they became full-time musicians and UU service presenters. They have released five CDs featuring original and traditional music. For more information, visit their website at www.februarysky.com.
